TRIBUNBATAM.id - When on vacation to Singapore, most people will immediately hunt for pictures at the Merlion Park to capture the moment with the Singapore icon.

For those of you who are bored and want to try a tourist destination in Singapore with a another atmosphere, Pulau Ubin can be your choice.

If you want to go to Pulau Ubin, you can go through the Changi Point Ferry Terminal without taking a long time.

Pulau Ubin is very different from mainland Singapore because there are still many wild forests, wandering animals, hilly meadows, glass-clear lakes and rows of ancient traditional houses.

Yes, Pulau Ubin is supported by silence that is suitable for those of you who want to take a break from the routine.

According to legend, Pulau Ubin was formed when an elephant, pig and frog tried to cross into Johor, Malaysia but failed and were turned into stone.

Since the 1800s, Pulau Ubin is home to the granite mining industry.

As the name suggests, Pulau Ubin means "granite island" in Malay.

The mining in the quarries stopped in 1999 and the island has since been restored to its original nature.

The homes of miners were left abandoned, only a handful of the residents remained, most of whom were elderly who lived their lives in simplicity.

Tourists, including Singaporeans, come to Pulau Ubin usually on weekends to escape from congested  city traffic, enjoy nature, and learn about the history since Singapore's independence.

On weekends, the streets of Pulau Ubin are filled with cyclists, and tourists would crowd around the giant lotus ponds, busy hunting for photos to post on Instagram.

However, on weekdays, the island offers a truly calm atmosphere.

You will only find a few tourists on a day trip or groups of school children who are camping.

At Pulau Ubin, you can find bicycle rental places, several small shops and simple restaurants and the Fo Shan Ting Da Bo Gong Temple.

Pulau Ubin is also still inhabited by wild animals, including crab-eating monkeys.

You can explore the island while cycling and enjoy the refreshing natural atmosphere that is still around.

If you happen to have the opportunity to have a vacation in Singapore, make sure Pulau Ubin is included in the list of destinations that you visit.
