Hi All, This post will talk about the experience of WUJ's 2nd Kampong Clean-Up which took place on February 24th, 2019. 7 wonderful people came down to Pulau Ubin to dedicate their Saturday morning to join me in making a difference for the residents there - and this time round, we headed down to Pak Ahmad's House where he kindly requested additional assistance. When we gathered at the house, Pak Ahmad and Nenek Piah were having a relaxing time in their serambi. I also passed to their family helper, Kak Ratnah, a memory card filled with over 102 P Ramlee songs following their request to be able to listen to their favourite songs once more. Hi All, This post is specially dedicated to my mom, Noorriah Binte Sulong, in celebration of her 60th birthday today on February 26th. Needless to say, my mom was the reason I began my Ubin journey. If it were not for her constant rewinds and replaying of her kampong tales, I clearly would not have been to where I am today. My mom is a source of great inspiration for me and the strongest pillar of support in my life. As the saying goes, our mothers are our first friends and our best-est friends; and my mom is no exception. Hi All! This post will be sharing on my experience where I headed down to Pulau Ubin with my best-est friend, Pam to distribute mandarin oranges and Chinese New Year decorations to the Chinese community there on February 2nd, 2019. It was also a great opportunity for me to befriend and get to know more of the Chinese residents there. In the week prior to Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, my mom and I headed down to the PRIME Supermarket near my house to buy some mandarin oranges on Tuesday. They were having an offer at the time and since we also loved eating oranges when Chinese New Year is around the corner, we bought three whole boxes of 18 oranges each! We opened up one box for ourselves while the other two was kept safely for Saturday. Hi all! On January 26th, 2019, WUJ embarked on its first ever community outreach project for the Ubin residents. Over 20 wonderful volunteers from all walks of life, race and faith came down to join me for this project on Saturday morning. Our youngest volunteer was 15 and our youngest-at-heart was 51, with a huge majority of them being youths who are around the same age as me and that was pretty awesome! For this event, we also had interns from Singapore Heritage Society (SHS) joining us as it would also be a great opportunity for them to learn about the heritage of the island especially from the residents that we were helping out that day. One of the requests came from Ivy, the daughter of Ah Ma from Ah Ma Drink Stall to help out in cleaning her home in time for Chinese New Year.
