Usher in Hari Raya with Wan's Ubin Journal!
Registration NOW OPEN!
Usher in Hari Raya with our Ubin residents by joining us in our first-ever Hari Raya Crafts Workshop where you get to learn how to weave decorative ribbon ketupats and even make your own DIY Hari Raya Cards!
What's more: All the ketupats that you have woven will then be hung at the Public Jetty and along the Main Village for all the Ubin residents and visitors to see and enjoy as we welcome the festive season of Hari Raya onto the island for the first time in recent history!
Nowadays it's rare to find Hari Raya cards for sale, but did you know that making Hari Raya cards were one of the kampong's favourite Hari Raya traditions in the past? So what better way to revive one of Ubin's most precious festive traditions by making your very own customisable and unique Hari Raya cards which you can share with your friends, family and neighbours back home?
This activity is open to all race and age! All materials will also be provided for you!
For our interested Muslim participants who are fasting, don't fret as this workshop will be held at the air-conditioned Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub Seminar Room. But as the room is rather small, we are only able to cater up to 30 participants per day so register yourselves quickly!
In line with Pesta Ubin 2019's theme "Supporting Ubin Businesses", participants are highly encouraged to patronise the provision shops and restaurants around the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub for some refreshments during the break session.
We also welcome experienced ribbon ketupat weavers to join us in this workshop, so that you may also assist others in need too!
The programme for the workshop is as follows:
Wan's Ubin Journal is proud to be the co-organiser for this Ubin community-led Pesta Ubin 2019 activity and look forward in spreading the festive cheer to our Ubin residents and visitors with you!
